(Yahoo!) - If you were like most ordinary folk on Christmas Eve, 2013, you were probably either snoozing in front of the tree with eggnog in hand or wrapping up stray gifts for the morning festivities. Those of us who happened to be whiling away the evening on social media, however, were treated to a very un-spirited tweet from Justin Bieber.
Hate to break this to you, all you Beliebers, but you're going to have a Blue Christmas, it's certain...
My beloved beliebers I'm officially retiring— Justin Bieber (@justinbieber) December 25, 2013
Yep, it's true, Bieber chose December 24 to make this announcement, therefore potentially ruining Christmas for his nearly 50 million followers. Before you declare he deserves coal in his stocking, let him explain why he's making this momentous step:
The media talks a lot about me.They make a up a lot of lies and want me to fail but I'm never leaving you, being a belieber is a lifestyle.— Justin Bieber (@justinbieber) December 25, 2013
So what is the deal, Justin? Are you leaving or not?
Be kind loving to each other, forgive each other as god forgave us through Christ Merry Christmas IM HERE FOREVER— Justin Bieber (@justinbieber) December 25, 2013
Fan reaction on Twitter ran the gamut from saddened disbelieb-f to pure "whatever, it's Christmas, dude!"
OMG IM NOT EVEN A BELIEBER BUT JUSTIN BIEBER RETIRING MAKES ME REALLY SAD TBH I MEAN HES BEEN PART OF MY CHILDHOOD KINDA— ★elizaaaa★ (@hipstalizzie) December 25, 2013
justin bieber may be retiring but Jesus isn't! Christmas! Yeah!— camille (@cambrocameltoe) December 25, 2013
However, Bieber has discussed this subject already this month - in fact, just last week, when he chatted with a Los Angeles radio station and noted he'd retire after his next album. His camp says this is all hooey.
We're wondering ourselves if it's the eggnog talking -- or perhaps a well-oiled PR machine -- but will be sure to check in tomorrow, perhaps after morning church services, to see if the Biebs has had a change of heart. In the meantime, for all the Beliebers, try to have yourselves a merry little Christmas.
