Former Boston Mayor Thomas Menino has been diagnosed with an advanced form of cancer.
Doctors found ``an advanced cancer of unknown origin'' that had metastasized. They were unable to find its source. The newspaper says the cancer was discovered in February by Menino's primary physician.

Menino served as Boston mayor for more than 20 years, longer than anyone else. He retired from the job a year ago after health problems forced him to decline to run for a sixth term.
