A Springfield man has pleaded guilty to trying to aid the getaway of a friend who had escaped from prison, fatally shot a customer in a barber shop, wounded the barber, and then injured two police officers during a shootout.

Trevin Smith pleaded guilty Thursday to a charge of accessory after the fact of murder. The prosecution and defense have agreed on a sentence of between 4 { and six years in prison at sentencing on Jan. 7.

Prosecutors say the 33-year-old Smith worked out a deal with Tamik Kirkland to help him escape after the afternoon of violence in April 30 by telling his girlfriend to drive Kirkland away from the scene.

Kirkland escaped from prison to avenge the non-fatal shooting of his mother.
