The Springfield Mayor is in line for a 40 thousand dollar a year pay raise. The City Council gave initial approval to the measure which would take effect with the next election cycle. It has been some sixteen years since the last increase in the mayor’s pay. Right now he makes 95 grand. The business community is making the biggest push for the increase. They say that the increase is not unreasonable based on the fact that the city is really a 540 million dollar corporation. In addition to the mayoral increase, they gave initial approval to a 5 thousand dollar increase in their paychecks.
