A judge has ruled that the trial of a Springfield man charged with killing his on-and-off girlfriend just hours after she celebrated her 25th birthday will remain in Hampden County.
A lawyer for Jose Santiago had asked that the murder trial be moved out of the county because of the amount and nature of media coverage his case received, which would make it impossible to find an unbiased jury.
A judge ruled the publicity surrounding the case was ``not significantly different in kind or amount'' from similar cases.
The 32-year-old Santiago is charged with fatally stabbing Jessica Rojas in March 2012.
Santiago, who's being held without bail after pleading not guilty, is scheduled to go on trial March 3.
