A 38-year-old Springfield man has pleaded not guilty to charges in a New Year's Day hit-and-run that killed a man riding a bicycle.

Adam Thurber was ordered held on $100,000 cash bail after his arraignment Monday in Springfield District Court. He is charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in personal injury and death, operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license, and speeding.

Derek Russell was fatally injured at about 3 a.m. Jan. 1 on Boston Road near his home.

Police spokesman Sgt. John Delaney says the Ford F-150 pickup that belonged to Thurber struck Russell and didn't stop. He said parts of Russell's bicycle were found nearly a mile from the scene.

Thurber was arrested Friday. He is due back in court next month.
