Victim Of Abuse Ready for Hunger Strike As Pope Meets Bishops

A Western Massachusetts activist is planning a hunger strike to compel a response from the Vatican to a report on sexual abuse by Catholic priests.

Olan Horne of Chester was one of the first abuse survivors in the Boston Archdiocese to go public about his trauma.

He tells The Berkshire Eagle he will start the strike at midnight tonight, which is when bishops in Rome are scheduled to meet to discuss the issue.

Victims of sexual abuse at the hands of Catholic clergy are meeting today with organizers of an upcoming Vatican summit on protecting minors.

The group of a dozen survivors says it plans to tell bishops to stop pretending they don't know about the rampant abuse.

The summit starts Thursday and is aiming to make sure that church leaders know what their responsibilities are when it comes to accountability and transparency.
