A 31 year old Bronx, New York man has been arrested in Springfield on charges that he stole checks and the identities of the people on those checks.
A police spokesman says Eric Encarnacion-Medina was arrested on Belmont Avenue outside of the post office after authorities secured video of him stealing checks from postal boxes.
Police say they became involved in the case when their analysis showed spiking in postal thefts and ID thefts in the city.
Officials say they believe Medina engaged in the same activities in New York.
