Massachusetts Hands Free Driving Bill Begins

The new hands-free driving law has officially begun.

Cell phone use will only be allowed in hands-free mode while driving.

Phones must be properly mounted on windshields, dashboards or center consoles.

A first offense will be a 100-dollar fine, a second offense is a 250-dollar fine and mandatory completion of a distracted driving course, third and subsequent offenses will be a 500-dollar fine and an insurance surcharge.

There will be a grace period through March 31st where first-time violators will only receive a warning.
