No Arrests In Hartford Murder Of AIC Football Player

A teenager who was shot dead Sunday night in Hartford was the grandson of a Hartford violence prevention worker.

Mahke Buckly was shot dead in the driveway of a home on Amherst Street.

Buckly is the grandson of Carl Hardrick, who has spent much of his life working to stop violence in Hartford.

Police believe Buckly was targeted by the shooter, but no arrests have been reported.

Bucky was on the football team at American International College where he was studying to become a personal trainer.

Hartford Mayor Luke Bronin knows the family. In a statement last night he said:

"I knew Makhi, and like almost everyone in Hartford, I know and love his grandpa Carl Hardrick – who is one of the most selfless people I’ve ever met.

To lose Makhi so senselessly is devastating, and to see Brother Carl – who has dedicated his life to saving kids and stopping violence – grieve the loss of his own grandson is especially difficult for those that know and love him.

My heart breaks for Makhi’s mom and dad, for his sisters, and for his entire family. Our team will continue to support Makhi’s family and friends during this incredibly difficult time."

No arrests have been made.
