Markey: "POTUS Optimistic Vision For Future" But Russian Oil Needs To Go

Senator Ed Markey is calling for a ban on importing Russian oil and petroleum products into the U.S. Markey says the U.S. imported 245 million barrels of oil from Russia last year.

“It’s also critical that this American future includes a rejection of dirty fossil fuels and a transition to clean energy. The clean energy revolution will create jobs, bring down energy costs, boost American innovation, and put front line communities who have borne the brunt of the impacts of the climate crisis at the center of our fight through a focus on environmental justice. Congress must act now to make this a reality by passing the climate justice and clean energy provisions in the Build Back Better Act, and carving a path to delivering on a Green New Deal that will transform our economy and reverberate for decades to come.

The senator says American fossil fuel companies have helped pay for Vladimir Putin's war on Ukraine with billions of dollars.

Markey says eliminating the nation's addiction to Russian oil will build a pathway to a more peaceful future.
