Employees Want Action Now On New Courthouse

Union employees at the Roderick Ireland Courthouse in Springfield held a protest on Monday over unsafe working conditions.

The state is conducting a feasibility study for a new courthouse as local officials claim there are serious health and safety issues caused by toxic, cancer-causing mold.

A lawsuit to close the courthouse until those issues are remediated is set to be heard by the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court later this month.

Meantime, Springfield Congressman Richard Neal says he expects OSHA and other federal agencies to investigate.

But he says what actually happens to the building will be left up to the Governor.
