State Tournament Game Marred By Spitting Incident

The Old Rochester Regional School District has apologized for an incident, in which one of its basketball players spat on a Pittsfield student during the State Division III semifinals on Monday.

In a letter to the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association, Pittsfield officials said an Old Rochester player spat on a Pittsfield player after a made basket.

Further, the letter says the player and his teammates, coaches, and fans were subject to racist abuse throughout the game.

Old Rochester officials determined that the spitting incident did occur, and the player, was removed from the team and will not play for Old Rochester in the playoff final against Charlestown.
