Springfield native and former Arizona sheriff Joe Arpaio plans to appeal a contempt of court verdict in order to get a trial by jury.
On Monday, a judge found the former Maricopa County sheriff guilty of misdemeanor contempt of court.
Arpaio was accused of taking nearly 18 months to comply with a federal judge's order to stop enforcing federal immigration law.
After the verdict was handed down, it was announced that Arpaio plans to appeal in hope that a jury will find him innocent.
