It appears the worst is over for a daylong snowstorm that dumped more than a foot and a half of snow in many locations throughout western Mass.
The snow forced the closing of schools and businesses throughout the area. All and all there were no major issues. Police did report dozens of accidents throughout the area. At one point there were two different jackknifed tractor trailers on Page Boulevard in Springfield.
Mountain Road, Route 141 in Easthampton was closed for most of the day. It is now open. Despite the reopening, officials are advising the use of caution.
The storm did have a hand in a water main break in Springfield on Main Street.
The area did luck out in one very important respect. There were no reported power outages from the electric companies.
For the morning, the overnight frigid temperatures are expected to cause another set of problems for tomorrow. In some cases the roads will be quite icy. If you are going to work Friday you are advised to use caution.
