Nearly three-dozen employees at the CRRC MA rail car manufacturer in Springfield are headed to the company's operations base in China for several months of training.
The group was given a send-off ceremony at Bradley Airport, and anticipates starting train car production when it returns, most likely in time for the Springfield plant that's currently under construction to be finished.
CRRC has picked up contracts to build cars for public transit agencies in Boston, Philadelphia, and Los Angeles.
Officials say because of the additional contracts they will be hiring additional workers. They thought that it would be 150 workers hired, now it will be about 200.
