Soda Tax Debated In Connecticut

Connecticut lawmakers are again  considering a tax on sugary sodas and other sweetened beverages.

The  measure requires the money raised by the one-cent-per-ounce tax be  dedicated to health-related education and outreach programs.

The  proposal as written would generate an estimated 85-million-dollars in  revenue.

A public hearing was held on the proposal yesterday in the  Legislature's Finance Committee.
