New License Protocol Considered In Connecticut

The state Department of Motor Vehicles  is changing the way it issues drivers' licenses.

The plan calls for  people having their picture taken at a DMV office, but they will no  longer receive the license right away.  Instead, it will be created at a  central location by the state's license vendor, and will be mailed to  the licensee in around 20 days.

Officials say printing licenses at a  secure site away from DMV offices reduces the risk of counterfeiting and  identity theft.

No date for the new system has been announced.
