A replacement is being announced to the cancelled "High Five Friday" program participated in by Northampton police officers.
Northampton Public Schools put an end to the event earlier this year due to concern from some parents including that some children might have negative impressions of law enforcement.
District officials said Monday there will be a permanent police liaison at Northampton elementary schools, which have not had an outreach program since DARE was cancelled several years ago.
That had been one of the options being considered by the police chief and superintendent in March.
