Mayor Says Budget Is Balanced And Solid

A budget of nearly 629-million dollars for the next fiscal year is being proposed by Springfield  Mayor Domenic Sarno.

The mayor delivered a budget message at City Hall  on Tuesday, indicating it is balanced, avoids layoffs or core city  service cuts and doesn't tap into reserve funding.

Sarno says it's a  two-percent increase over last year's budget.

The budget calls for 50 new police officers and 17 new firefighters.

The new fiscal year  begins in July.
