Contract talks with Springfield's district fire chiefs are being suspended in the aftermath of controversial comments apparently made by fire department members on social media.
The comments, which were critical of a residency clause in a new contract for the chiefs, were discussed during Monday's City Council meeting.
The contract did not pass after a vote was taken.
Mayor Domenic Sarno called the Facebook comments "ugly" and said won't resubmit the contract for another vote from the council until a plan is in place to deal with the issue.
