Governor Charlie Baker is proposing a sales tax holiday for the weekend of August 19th and 20th.
Baker's bill would suspend the six and a quarter percent Massachusetts sales tax on most items costing under 25-hundred-dollars.
Baker says the holiday would provide a much needed break for consumers and would boost local business sales.
Legislative leaders seem cool to the idea, with House Speaker Robert DeLeo calling it fiscally unwise.
The other problem is that the bill was filed in informal session which means any lawmaker can object and the measure would be dead.
