Judge Kicks Case Against UMass Student

A former University of Massachusetts  Amherst student who was charged with threatening to commit a shooting is  off the hook.

Geoffrey Small of Newbury had his name cleared in  Hampshire Superior Court , several months after the case had  been dropped in Eastern Hampshire District Court.

Prosecutors said  Small's dorm mate overheard him tell someone on the phone the school  needed to be "shot up" back in January, and had also heard him say he  wanted to shoot his professors late last year.

Judge Richard Carey  determined Small had no intent to act on what he said in his ruling.
