The Massachusetts Civil Service Commission is upholding the firing of an Agawam police officer for alleged use of excessive force.
The commission ruled on Thursday that the town and Mayor Richard Cohen were justified in cutting John Moccio loose after video showed the alleged mistreatment of a prisoner at the Agawam police station last June.
Two other officers who were involved, Edward Connor and Anthony Grasso, were also fired but have been reinstated with back pay.
Grasso was demoted and the commission ruled on Thursday that the town was justified in taking that action, also.
