Hurricane relief efforts geared towards helping people in Puerto Rico are solidifying in Western Massachusetts.
A group of political leaders, non-profits, business owners and religious group called Western Massachusetts United for Puerto Rico is coming together to establish drop-off donation centers in Springfield, Westfield and Holyoke.
A meeting was held on Thursday in Springfield to coordinate the effort, including representatives from the offices of Congressman Richard Neal and Senators Elizabeth Warren and Ed Markey.
The deaths of nine people attributed to Hurricane Maria have been confirmed in Puerto Rico, and many people are still missing.
