A Springfield man who is set to be deported on Thursday is being given sanctuary at a church in Amherst.
Lucio Perez, who came to the U.S. illegally two decades ago from Guatemala, is being welcomed to live at First Congregational Church until his case is settled.
Eighteen people were arrested in Springfield this week for peacefully protesting Perez' scheduled deportation at the Department of Homeland Security building.
Meantime, the legal fight is continuing in order to keep the man who has had no issues with police or authorities, is continuing.
