An agreement is being announced for a possible transfer of the Mater Dolorosa church in Holyoke from the Catholic Diocese of Springfield.
Holyoke Mayor Alex Morse and Springfield Bishop Mitchell Rozanski will be involved in the negotiations.
A hearing that was scheduled for Monday night to make the historic church a single-building historic district was cancelled after the announcement was made.
Former parishioners have wanted the church preserved, while the diocese wanted it demolished.
