Hall of Fame manager Tony La Russa is leaving the Diamondbacks to join the Boston Red Sox front office.
The Sox have named La Russa vice president and special assistant to president of baseball operations who happens to be La Russa's longtime friend Dave Dombrowski. La Russa spent the last four seasons in the Arizona Diamondbacks front office, most recently serving as chief baseball analyst.
La Russa was named Manager of the Year four times over his 33 seasons, has three World Series wins, ranks third all-time with 2,728 career regular-season wins and second with 70 postseason wins.
