An ordinance is being crafted to require Springfield gas stations and convenience stores to participate in a new surveillance program.
Police Commissioner John Barbieri and several City Council members announce the public safety model that is modeled after an initiative in Detroit.
Preliminary talks on the program were held last month, after a late-night fatal shooting at a Mobil Station at the corner of Main and Dover Streets in May.
The fully council could hear about the proposal in late December or early January, according to Public Safety Committee Chairman Tom Ashe.
