A half-dozen Western Massachusetts mayors are asking President Trump to repeal and replace a law from last year that they say has hamstrung the Drug Enforcement Administration from dealing with the opioid crisis.
Specifically, the letter sent to the president and Congress on Wednesday calls for the re-establishment of the DEA's enforcement authority to allow it to deal with illegal corporate drug activity, and the appointment of a drug czar.
Twenty-seven mayors from the commonwealth attached their signature to the letter, including Richard Cohen of Agawam, William Martin of Greenfield, Richard Alcombright of North Adams, Linda Tyelr of Pittsfield, Domenic Sarno of Springfield, and William Reichelt of West Springfield.
