Eversource is asking the state of Massachusetts for a rate increase.
The average Western Massachusetts residential customer, which is defined as one that uses 550 kilowatt-hours of electricity monthly, would get a bill that's six dollars more expensive this winter from last winter.
If the Department of Public Utilities approves the rate increase, it will take effect on January 1st and stay in place for six months.
Eversource says higher prices for natural gas for electric generators is what's driving the greater cost of electricity.
