Public defenders are asking for a raise and bargaining rights as state employees.
A group of attorneys belonging to the Committee for Public Counsel Services rallied outside the Roderick Ireland Courthouse in Springfield on Monday to support legislation which would allow the agency's employees to unionize.
Similar rallies were held in Worcester and Boston.
