Hampden County Sheriff Nick Cocchi is pursuing a new treatment option for drug addicts.
Cocchi is pursuing partnerships and funding to be able to order involuntary civil commitments for drug abusers.
Most of the facilities that accept civil commitments are in the eastern part of Massachusetts.
Cocchi says the state would have to approve funding for a new commitment center in Hampden County.
