Commissioner Wants New Home

Springfield  Police Commissioner John Barbieri is pushing for a new police  department headquarters.

Barbieri says the current building on Pearl  Street, built in 1970, is outdated.

Approval is being sought for a plan  to demolish the old station and build a new one next door.

It would  cost 85-million-dollars, but Springfield officials are hoping the state will approve a bill to cover half the financing.

State officials haven't commented.
