Domestic violence and transgender advocacy groups are reacting to the murder of a transgender woman in Western Massachusetts.
The husband of Christa Steele-Knudslien was arraigned on murder charges in North Adams court on Monday.
A joint statement by the Berkshire County-based Elizabeth Freeman Center and four other groups says Steele-Knudslien's death is a reminder that of the extraordinary levels of violence faced by transgender people.
Mark Steele-Knudslien reportedly told police he had argued with Christa and snapped before hitting her multiple times with a hammer and stabbing her in the back.
