A formal vote for a needle exchange program in Springfield is now set for February 21st after the Springfield City Council hosted a hearing on the topic on Wednesday.
There was no opposition from the dozen-or-so people who testified before the Public Health Council at the Central Library.
Mayor Domenic Sarno opposed the last effort in the late 1990s to bring such a program to Springfield, when he was a city council member, but now says he is keeping an open mind to the idea.
The public comment period will continue to February 9th and then another meeting will be scheduled.
