Springfield City Council is delaying consideration of a proposal to protect a church that is providing sanctuary to a woman facing deportation.
Council members will take up the order to stop the city from taking action against the church at next Monday's meeting instead of today because of scheduling conflicts for some councilors, according to council president Orlando Ramos.
South Congregational Church is housing Gisella Collazo, a woman who had been scheduled to be deported to Peru.
Mayor Domenic Sarno said last week he was ordering a re-inspection of the church by the city and for a review of its tax-exempt status.
