More temporary safety measures are being put in place for the historic Campanile tower in downtown Springfield.
Mayor Domenic Sarno said he has directed city departments to install additional reinforced mesh bands on the fourth corner of the tower, along with extension bands and lateral reinforced mesh on key structural points.
Sarno added that he has allocated 200-thousand dollars to initiate the design phase of extensive renovation.
Nets had to be installed to keep the exterior portion of the Campanile from falling apart about a decade ago.
