Council Blesses Tax Incentive For New Apartments

The former YMCA building in Springfield is being turned into new housing.

Springfield  City Council voted on Monday night to grant tax incentives to a  developer who plans on converting the Chestnut Street property into  nearly 100 apartments, which will be available at market rate.

The  developer, SilverBrick Group, purchased the downtown property for just  under five-million-dollars last December.

The council reversed a  decision against approving the tax incentives from two months ago.
