Vermont Congressman Peter Welch says a bill that seeks to address the nation's opioid crisis falls short of what is needed.
The measure was approved by the House on Friday with strong bipartisan support.
However, Welch says the elements in the package are modest, while the country needs a comprehensive approach to dealing with the crisis.
He says the federal government can assist by providing tools and resources to those working on the front lines to deal with the opioid overdose crisis.
Welch is 71 and a native of Springfield, Mass.
