The West Nile Virus threat level is being raised by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.
The department raised the alert from low to moderate in West Springfield.
The announcement comes after recent mosquito pools tested positive for the virus in Northampton, Chicopee, and Holyoke.
In Amherst and several other communities, officials say they will not be spraying to combat the spread.
Instead officials say that you should use bug sprays with DEET and wear long sleeves.
