Details are emerging about the incident this past weekend in South Carolina where a South Windsor police sergeant was killed.
A police report indicates that four people furiously tried to save Sergeant Matthew Mainieri's life after he was hit in the head.
Mainieri apparently was trying to break up a fight when he was struck at Uncle Tito's Bar and Grill near Myrtle Beach.
Kelton Todd of Aynor, South Carolina is charged with aggravated assault and is free on 35-thousand-dollars bond.
Officials say the defendant has not been charged with anything else related to the death of the police officer although that could change at any time.
Meantime, there has been no announcement as to funeral services for the officer.
