Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno says new federal indictments issued against a current Springfield police officer and a former one are very troubling.
Gregg Bigda and Steven Vigneault have both denied charges of using excessive force, and Bigda also was charged with abusive interrogation and writing a false police report in federal court in Springfield on Wednesday.
The charges stem from the aftermath of an arrest of several juveniles who allegedly stole an undercover police vehicle in 2016.
Springfield Police Commissioner John Barbieri says Bigda will be suspended without pay due to the indictment.
