The first snowfall of the season is expected this week for the Pioneer Valley.
The National Weather Service is calling for two inches for Springfield to Amherst and three inches farther up.
Forecasters say rain and ice are also factors in the storm that is set to impact the region late Thursday into Friday.
Local DPWs say they are ready for the storm.
Since it is the first storm of the season, they are all well stocked with salt and sand.
Area police departments are asking drivers to be careful.
Drivers are often times unaccustomed to driving conditions early on in the season.
