The Springfield City Council has postponed a vote on the setting of the tax rate for next year.
Councilors were prepared to sign off on the yearly task but then told that if they approved the same residential rate as they did last year, then taxes would be increasing because property values also went up.
More information was requested and it is expected that the mill rate for residential properties would have to be adjusted.
That is expected to happen Wednesday night.
The residential rate is proposed at $19.68 a thousand.
The proposed commercial rate is $39.30 a thousand.
