Springfield, Easthampton and Holyoke share in several state grants in an announcement by Governor Charlie Baker on Wednesday. Six-and-a-half-million dollars in grant funding for statewide parks and recreation improvements.
Easthampton is getting four-hundred-thousand dollars from a Parkland Acquisitions and Renovations for Communities grant to purchase about a dozen acres next to Mount Tom.
Baker's office says the acquisition will enable the park to serve as the trailhead for the New England Scenic Trail.
Springfield and Holyoke also received grants of the same amount for work on Emily Bill Park and a restoration effort for Pouliot Pool, respectively.
