Congressman Won't Endorse Green Deal Yet But Wants To See More

Congressman Richard Neal is being urged to join the rest of the Massachusetts Congressional delegation and support the Green New Deal.

A group of activists gathered outside Neal's Springfield office to send that message on Tuesday, specifically calling for Neal to use his power as the chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee to help advance the legislation through Congress.

Neal recognized climate change as a real threat that requires bold action in a statement earlier this week, but stopped short of endorsing the proposal from Massachusetts Senator Ed Markey and New York Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

Neal, although saying that some of what is being proposed are good ideas, the Congressman wants to wait until after a special commission comes up with its ideas on the Climate Crisis.

Neal is the only congressman in the Massachusetts Delegation that has not endorsed the deal.
