Springfield Fire Leaves 40 Without A Home

Two people were injured and at least 40 residents were displaced after a two-building fire in Springfield on Tuesday.

At least twelve apartments were affected in the Belmont Avenue building where the fire began and an adjacent structure.

Firefighters arrived at around 5:30 p.m. and were initially inside battling the blaze but were ordered out about a half-hour later because it was determined to be unsafe.

The fire burned for hours after that.

The Springfield Arson and Bomb Squad and Massachusetts State Police are investigating.
