Maine Trooper Killed In Line Of Duty Was Native Of Easthampton

State police are mourning the loss of one of their own following a tragic accident.

Investigators say Detective Benjamin Campbell was helping a driver along Interstate 95 in Hampden yesterday when a wheel from a passing tractor-trailer separated and struck him.

He was rushed to the hospital but pronounced dead.

Campbell is the 12th member of the state police to die in the line of duty.

Trooper Campbell would have been 32 on Monday.

He is a native of Easthampton, Mass and was a graduate of Westfield State University where he played baseball.

He is survived by his wife and young child.
