Hampshire Council Of Governments Set To Disband

The Hampshire Council of Governments is dissolving.

The Daily Hampshire Gazette reports the council, which replaced the Hampshire County Government, revealed the plans to its employees yesterday, citing employee costs and revenue decline from energy businesses that it owns.

Plans to pay for the council's financial liabilities include selling off the historic Hampshire County courthouse, which officials say the state has an interest in purchasing.

The council also plans to transfer the responsibility for the programs it runs to other public or non-profit groups.
